Colin Basran knows Kelowna! His family has lived and done business in the area since the 1920's. He was born in Kelowna and raised in Rutland before graduating from K.L.O. Secondary School in 1995. He studied History and English soon after at Okanagan University College, now UBC Okanagan, before discovering his passion for journalism. Following his dreams, Colin left Kelowna to take the Broadcast Journalism program at the B.C. Institute of Technology.
After receiving his diploma, Colin moved back home to take a position as a Television News Reporter with CHBC (Global) Television. Colin covered news and sports in the Central and South Okanagan from 2002 to 2007, further increasing his knowlege of the area. Some of his fondest journalism memories include covering the Okanagan Mountain Park fire of 2003 and being named News Reporter of the Year by the B.C. Fruit Growers Association in 2006. Being on television everyday for five years in his home town is still one of his proudest achievements.
Colin is married to his fantastic wife Leanne and the two had their first child in October 2010. Colin is very active in the Kelowna sports community. He is an avid hockey player and plays year round. He also plays slo-pitch during the warmer months along with plenty of golf. He is a current member of the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce. Politics is also a passion of Colin's and he has plans to run in a municipal, provincial or federal election in the future.
